Classic Cleveland Shale Fossil-Fish Localities

Join us for an engaging half-day excursion to the renowned Cleveland Shale fossil-fish localities, located within the scenic Cleveland Metroparks. This trip offers a unique opportunity to explore historically significant sites that have yielded important Devonian vertebrate fossils, with hands-on collecting included. With all tools provided, participants can focus on discovery while learning about the region’s rich paleontological record. This convenient, immersive field experience is perfect for those looking to add an authentic field component to their Cleveland meeting experience.

Any collecting falls under the existing collecting permit for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and the museum will be the repository for any finds. Any collecting will comply with the SVP Code of Conduct.

Recommended clothing or items to bring
Hiking boots, warm clothing (avg. temp. 50-32F, known to snow as early as October), rain gear.

Transportation
Transport by van will be provided.
