Exploring the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site
Sunday, November 9 (leaving at 7:30 am) - Tuesday, November 11
In this trip, led by Kirsty Edgar and Davide Foffa (University of Birmingham), we will visit England’s only natural World Heritage Site, the Jurassic Coast, stopping at multiple historically important field sites, markers and fossil collections. We will explore Lyme Regis, the hometown of legendary fossil collector Mary Anning, whose groundbreaking finds helped shape the science of palaeontology. In Charmouth and Durlston Bays, we will prospect for fossils from different geological time periods, uncovering remnants of ancient marine life. We will stand in the footsteps of giants at Spyway Quarry, where the fossilized footprints of Early Cretaceous sauropods are preserved. The trip will begin in Birmingham early on the morning of Sunday 9th November and finish in Birmingham late afternoon of Tuesday 11th November. Two nights of bed and breakfast accommodation (on Sunday 9th and Monday 10th), transport by coach, and entry to museums are included, but participants will have to cover their own lunch and dinner.

In Durlston Bay we will be walking over large rocks and cobbles that can be slippery. There will be walks of 20-60 minutes either into sites or along coastal sections that will involve slopes.
