2024 Workshop – Current Best Practices for Generating and Managing CT Scan Data of Fossils

Current Best Practices for Generating and Managing CT Scan Data of Fossils

This workshop has reached capacity.

Tuesday October 29, 2024, 9:00 am -12:00 pm, Hyatt Regency Minneapolis (meeting room TBD)

In this workshop, attendees will learn strategies and practices for generating CT scan data of fossils and managing the data for long-term preservation and reuse. These recommendations will come from the NSF-funded Non-Clinical Tomography Users Research Network (NoCTURN) and from the organizers’ combined 40+ years of experience in the field. The organizers represent perspectives from museums, universities, and core research facilities in the US and UK. At the end of the workshop, attendees will leave with a better understanding of topics such as: deciding on the best scan resolution; preparing data and metadata for long-term preservation; how and when to best share data for reuse; and more. Attendees will also leave with a draft Data Management Plan that can be tailored for funding proposals involving CT scans of fossils.

Recommended items to bring
Participants are asked to bring their own laptops so they can participate in the interactive portion of the workshop. You may also want to bring something to take notes if you prefer to do this on paper.
