About the Society Awards Past Award Winners 2019 Awardees 2019 (Hix Preparator's Grant) Leonardo Pazo

Since Leonardo “Harry” Pazo was a child, he has had a fascination about dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. He began his studies in Paleontology at La Plata National University in 2002, but it was a few years later that he found out his real vocation was fossil preparation.

In 2005 he started his first job as a student in the Laboratory of Fossil Preparation in La Plata Museum. Later, in 2007 he began working as a collaborator technician in the Paleontology Area of Azara Foundation. Since 2013, he became the chief of the Laboratory of fossil preparation at Azara Foundation, leading the fossil preparations and guiding volunteers. Through all these years he has trained about twenty students of paleontology in technical works.

Throughout his career, Leonardo has participated in twenty paleontological fieldworks, being in half of them the technician in charge, implying his participation in planification, coordination and logistics. The sites he has visited are in different locations in Patagonia, such as: El Cerro Policía and La Buitrera (Río Negro province), Bajada Colorada and El Chocón (Neuquén province), and Tres Lagos (Santa Cruz province). He is the author and co-author of several scientific abstract presented in national paleontological meetings, about laboratory preparation and improvements in fossil extraction techniques.
