About the Society Awards Past Award Winners 2018 Awardees 2018 (Lanzendorf PaleoArt Prize) 2-Dimensional Art - Brian Engh

Brian Engh is an American artist based in southern California specializing in paleontological art. He is also an avid naturalist and has participated in paleontological surveys and excavations as well as field studies in wildlife biology throughout the southwestern United States. His diverse experience with both living ecologies and the fossil record inform his paleoart, which attempts to bring the ancient world back to life in crisp, vivid and scientifically accurate detail, such that the viewer feels like they might step back into that ancient world and explore its depth and intricacies. His works have been featured in scientific papers, books, television programs, museum exhibits, and a series of outdoor interpretive panels for public fossil sites in Utah. Many of his works are highly site-specific, and Brian’s eagerness to get out to the field to see the geologic context of his subjects first hand have lead to illustrations that incorporate numerous details interpreted directly from the fossil and geological record.
