About the Society Awards Past Award Winners 2018 Awardees 2018 (Cohen Award) Savannah Olroyd

Savannah lived a double life as an undergraduate at the University of Oregon, working in a paleontology lab and a lab that studied development and population genetics. Her involvement in both labs instilled in her a deep appreciation for using modern biology to inform what is seen in the fossil record. After earning her bachelor’s degree, Savannah spent a year collecting data on Permo-Carboniferous faunas at the Field Museum. She earned her master’s degree in Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington, where she described new specimens of a poorly known dicynodont and wrote a review of tetrapod-bearing localities from the middle Permian. Savannah is now continuing towards a Ph.D. at the University of Washington, focusing on functional morphology of the ear in non-mammalian therapsids.
