About the Society Awards Past Award Winners 2016 Awardees 2016 (Lanzendorf PaleoArt Prize) 3-Dimensional Art/Sculpture - Jim Burt

After graduating as an art major in 1992 from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls,
Jim worked primarily as a freelance painter until joining Blue Rhino Studio in 1999. It
took very little time for him to discover not only a natural aptitude for sculpture, but also a
passion for realism and paleontology. His ability and interest helps steer the work that
Blue Rhino Studio has been fortunate enough to pursue. Jim’s sculptures have been
featured in exhibits for the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Chicago Field Museum, the
American Museum of Natural History, the BioMuseo in Panama City, the San Diego
Natural History Museum, the San Diego Zoo, the Minnesota Zoo, the Ancient Ozarks
Heritage Preserve, the Denver Museum of Science and Nature, the Royal Alberta
Museum, and many more.

During the past 17 years Jim has developed his own skills and also helped build the team
at Blue Studio that comes together to create larger elements than he would do on his own.
Backed by the group, with meticulous research and working closely with paleontologists,
Jim Burt has developed into one of the leading naturalistic sculptors working in the natural
history museum field today.
