About the Society Awards Past Award Winners 2004 Awardees 2004 (Estes Memorial Grant) Heather Jamniczky

JamniczkyI was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada . I completed a BSc in Zoology at the University of Calgary in 2001, which included an honors thesis entitled "Vertebrate Microsite Sampling: How Much is Enough?" co-supervised by Dr. Anthony Russell and Dr. Donald Brinkman (Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology). This research focused on the development of repeatable sampling techniques for vertebrate microfossil localities. I began my PhD studies at the University of Calgary in September 2001, again co-supervised by Dr. Anthony Russell and Dr. Donald Brinkman. My dissertation research focuses on the evolution, development, and phylogenetic utility of turtle cranial arterial canals and foramina. I also study the importance of homology in biology from both a biological and philosophical perspective.
