Following the successful II CLPV, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2005, the Lago Barreales Paleontological Center (CePaLB), National University of Comahue, is pleased to invite you to attend the Third Latin-American Congress of Vertebrate Paleontology (IIICLPV). The meeting will be held in Neuquén city, Neuquén province, Patagonia, Argentina, from Sept. 22 – 25, 2008, and is co-organized with the Villa El Chocón Museum, Zapala Museum, Trelew Museum and several other paleontological institutions.

The Argentine Paleontological AssociationThe Society of Brazilian PaleontologyThe Paleontological Society of ChileThe Palaeontological Association (United Kingdom)The Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (U.S.A.)
Program
The Congress includes technical sessions and nine symposia about dinosaurs, birds, crocodiles, turtles, frogs, mammals, marine reptiles and paleontological tourism in Latin American. More than 12 conferences on a wide range of topics will be given. A short field trip to famous Cretaceous localities and museums will be available (El Chocón/Barreales lake); this trip is included in the registration fee.
A technical field trip, titled “Prospecting and Digging Techniques of Vertebrates in Rocks,” will be offered at Proyecto Dino site (CePaLB) (Sept. 17-20) before the Congress begins, and a field trip to the continental Cretaceous of Neuquén Basin will be offered after the Congress (Sept. 26-28). A special place for displaying in life reconstructions and skeletons by artists will be exhibited during the entire event and for a month after that; all reconstructions are welcome.
Neuquén city lies in the middle of the most important Cretaceous fossil region in South America, where several paleontological museums display many holotypes, most of them very famous vertebrates, especially dinosaurs. Therefore, you may visit different collections of Cretaceous dinosaurs, birds, continental and marine reptiles, etc. Moreover, because you must enter the country via Buenos Aires, you can also visit the huge fossil collections stored at the Natural Sciences museums of La Plata and Buenos Aires. (Please contact the curators of those museums in advance of your visit).
Registration to the IIICLPV is already open. There are four categories: student, professional from either Latin America or overseas, respectively, as well as different payment options. Registration can be paid either at the meeting (full price) or in advance (reduced price).
Only abstracts on subjects related to the themes of the CLPV-III meeting will be accepted. The abstract submission deadline is June 15, 2008. Short papers will be received after the III-CLPV meeting until Dec. 31, 2008. Abstracts, short papers and oral/poster presentations will be accepted in Spanish, Portuguese or English.
