2008 – PaleoArt Poster Exhibit – SVP Cleveland
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History
Wednesday, October 15, 2008 7:00 to 10:00 PM
Although held in conjunction with the annual SVP meeting and during Wednesday’s Opening Reception, this is a PaleoArt Poster Exhibit, and is not affiliated with or sponsored by SVP, but is presented through an arrangement by the PaleoArt Poster Committee with the Cleveland Museum of Natural History to complement the meeting. This exhibit presents an opportunity for paleoartists to expose the SVP community to the art of clarification, reconstruction, and visualization required by the science of paleontology to re-create and enliven extinct flora and fauna. No prizes will be awarded. - Patricia Kane-Vanni – Exhibit Organizer
PaleoArt Poster Exhibit Guidelines:
- 2008 Theme: Any reproduced, non-photographic 2-D (or photos of 3-D) “reasonably scientifically accurate” renderings in Black & White or Color, of body, trace fossils, reconstructions or life restorations with a description of each reproduction. The reproductions may be any size, to fit into one 3½’w X 3’h poster-size space, two artists’ posters to each full-size 3½’w X 6½’h vertical panel. (12 panels in all) You may reproduce as many pieces/images as you wish onto your poster, but remember that fewer, larger images will have greater impact. The 2008 PaleoArt Poster Committee will review all work submitted, and the work will be accepted into the show based on a variety of requirements, including technical skill and medium. The decision of the Committee is final.
- Poster Set-Up: Any color background or mat. Artwork may be B/W or Color.
- Space: You will be sharing the entire 3.5-foot wide by 6.5-foot high (44” X 81”) panel/board with one other artist. There are 12 display boards; therefore, at most, 23 artist spots and one spot for the show announcement, titles, and artist list.
- Space size: There will be 12 Vertical, 44” wide by 81” high panels, 24 half-panels for the posters. Although one vertical or horizontal: 3 ½’w X 3’h layout poster sheet is recommended, you may use several pieces to fit into each artist’s allotted 3 ½’w X 3’h space.
- Eligibility and Submission Guidelines:
- You are not required to be in attendance at the PaleoArt Poster session, or be present the entire time, but you must designate someone to act in your place.
- Entries are due any time prior to midnight, Sunday, September 14, 2008. The earlier the better. (Use your already-scanned e-art and arrange it on a poster-size vertical or horizontal: 3 ½’w X 3’h layout.)

Recommendation: PaleoArtist exhibitors may want to consider signing and donating your poster or individual poster pieces/images to the SVP Auction. You can do this on your own after the exhibit, or, fill out an auction donation form & let us know in advance and we will be responsible for Takedown and make sure the donation is dropped off in time for the auction.
Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns regarding the submission or the exhibit.
Thank you, and we look forward to sharing your talent with the SVP attendees!
