Second International Congress on North African Vertebrate Paleontology

Second International Congress on North African Vertebrate Paleontology
(NAVEP2)
September 02–09-2014 / Ouarzazate – MOROCCO
Organized by Faculté des Sciences AïnChock, Université Hassan II, Casablanca – Morocco

General Information
The first NAVEP meeting was held in Marrakech in 2009. This event was a great success for all participants and included many important contributions from many different areas. The 2009 NAVEP committee suggested organizing a meeting every four years to assess and discuss our current knowledge of vertebrate paleontology in North Africa and neighboring regions and promote responsible collection, preservation and protection of the paleontological heritage of this region.
The 2014 NAVEP meeting will take place in Morocco in September 2014. The conference will take place in Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert, a major tourist destination due to its location south of the Atlas Mountains. Ouarzazate provides a departure point for excursions to the Draa Valley and the desert.
The scientific sessions in Ouarzazate will be followed by a fieldtrip to visit fossil localities in southern Morocco, including outcrops of the Kem Kem sequence near Taouz, Cretaceous vertebrate localities in Goulmima and placoderm localities (Devonian) in the Tafilalt basin.
