Bears Ears and Grand-Staircase Escalante Regions: Comment on National Monuments

May 22, 2017
VP's core mission includes support and encourages the protection of vertebrate fossils and fossil sites.  Trump’s executive order 13792 mandates a review of the boundaries of 21 US national monuments, including two whose express purpose includes protecting vertebrate fossils.

We encourage SVP members to submit comments.  Two monuments that were designated for their vertebrate fossil resources -- Bears Ears and Grand-Staircase Escalante National Monuments -- are under special threat.  Both monuments are in southern Utah and both contain rich vertebrate fossil resources across their entire geographic extent.

Please consider commenting that the boundaries of Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument should be maintained and and those of Bears Ears expanded.  The two accompanying graphics contain information and talking points.
