March 19, 2013
The Chinese NSFC and the US NSF are hosting another in the sequence of “Critical Transitions Workshops” to foster collaborative research on major events in the history of life, to be held in Kunming, China on August 3-6, 2013. See http://www.criticaltransitions.org/workshop5.html for a previous workshop in Los Angeles (and links to older workshops); a new website is under construction and should be online soon. Funds are available through the US NSF for American professionals and graduate students for round trip air travel to attend this workshop, up to a maximum of US$3,000.00. Room and board expenses during the workshop will be funded by the Chinese NSFC. Scientists who would like to begin collaborative work in China will be the highest priority, but scientists who have a track record of collaborative work with Chinese scientists will also be considered.

To apply for these travel funds please send an application letter, detailing the request for travel funds, and a one-page single-spaced statement of purpose for attending the meeting, to Xiaoming Wang (xwang@nhm.org), by April 15, 2013. Decisions on awards will be made by May 10, 2013.
